ARDGOWAN Thistle Football Club has announced a change in club leadership, with Robert Henderson taking over following the outstanding service of outgoing chair Andrew Mitchell.

Andrew has led the club for the past four-and-a-half years, overseeing a period of continued growth both on and off the pitch. During his tenure, the club has strengthened its role within the local community, expanded opportunities for young players, and continued to develop a positive environment for players, coaches, volunteers and families.

Robert brings considerable experience to the role, having coached with the club since 2017 and played a significant role in the recovery after the pandemic. He has two children in the club and is currently a coach within the 2013 age group.

Andrew said: “I’m delighted with what we’ve achieved during my term in charge and I know the club is in safe hands with Robert and the rest of the committee, coaches and volunteers who make this club what it is today.”

Andrew will continue to play an active role, remaining part of the coaching set-up for both the 2011 and 2021 age groups, while also continuing to support fundraising efforts.

Robert said: “I’m honoured to be following Andrew as chair of an organisation that is making a real impact in the community and giving so many young people such positive experiences. I’m a big believer in giving as many kids a chance to play football as possible and I look forward to continuing the trajectory Andrew has set for the club.”

Robert also highlighted the importance of volunteers in helping the club continue to thrive. He said: “Like every community organisation we rely completely on volunteers, and there is a range of ways people can help. I particularly want to bring on board non-coaching volunteers from the parents and grandparents of our players who may have skills, experience or simply a bit of spare time to get involved.

“Whether it’s helping with fundraising, organising events, admin or supporting matchdays, every contribution helps the club thrive and provide young people with fantastic opportunities to enjoy the beautiful game.”
