FERGUSON Marine in Port Glasgow has successfully completed work for the Royal Navy’s Type 26 warship programme.
The shipyard fabricated three steel structural units for frigate HMS Birmingham which is being built by BAE Systems in Glasgow.
The units have been transported to BAE Systems’ Govan shipyard in an operation overseen by heavy lift and transportation specialists Malin Abram, utilising marine assets provided by Coastworks, two other Clyde-based businesses.

“This project has showcased the robust capabilities of our skilled workforce and provided invaluable, high-level engineering experience for apprentices. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with BAE Systems and continuing conversations about the support we can provide in the future as a supplier of key components.”
Ferguson Marine is now preparing to deliver ferry Glen Rosa.
It is also carrying out infrastructure and equipment upgrades using £14.2million capital investment from the Scottish Government, readying the yard following the Government’s announcement that it intends to award Ferguson Marine contracts to build four new vessels.
