MORTON have signed a young American defender on an initial short-term loan.

Christopher Cupps comes to Cappielow from MLS side Chicago Fire.

The 18-year-old is a product of the Chicago Fire Academy and signed his first professional contract in February 2025 at just 16 years old.

Making his Chicago Fire and MLS debuts in April 2025, Christopher became the youngest homegrown player in the club’s history to appear in the MLS.

Cupps is also a United States youth international and was recently a member of the United States Under-19 Men’s National Team roster for the 2026 Concacaf Under-20 Championship.

He made three group-stage appearances, scoring against El Salvador, before playing in the quarter-final against Guatemala.

Morton manager Ian Murray said: “This is a signing that we have been working on for several months now, and it’s fantastic to finally have him in the building.

“Christopher is just 18 years old but brings good experience and adds real quality to the squad. He is highly rated at Chicago Fire and has made a number of first-team appearances in the MLS, as well as being part of the United States youth set-up.”
