Glasgow Accies 186 all out in 49.5 overs
Match abandoned before Greenock batted

GREENOCK’S match at New Anniesland against Glasgow Accies was abandoned after the Accies’ innings because of wet weather.

Knowing that rain would move in during the afternoon, Greenock inserted the home side when the pre-match coin toss landed in their favour.

The tactic was to try and bowl Accies out quickly and then score the runs to win the match before the rain arrived. It did not work out that way.

Accies began confidently with Holloway hitting the first ball to the boundary and by the end of the first six overs the Glasgow side had 20 runs. But having scored 16 runs himself, opening bat Holloway became Greenock’s first wicket thanks to a good catch by Chirag Pandher.

A second-wicket stand of 25 runs between opener Nicholas and new batsman Brown showed that Accies would not be easily swept aside. And further good partnerships for the third and fourth wicket took the New Anniesland team to 94 for 4 at just a little more than half way through the innings.

So any chance of Greenock getting the match completed before the rain arrived was disappearing with each over bowled. And Accies continued to bat on with purpose as runs piled up through to just one ball short of the end of their 50 over innings when their last wicket fell with the score on 186.

This was their highest of the season, and Greenock would have been disappointed to allow so many runs to have been scored having had the home side 99 for 6 after 32 overs. However, it was all in vain for Accies as the match was abandoned without any further play after the tea interval.

Richard Andrew, coming in at number eight, was their top scorer with 31 runs. And with Farhan Shah scoring 23 runs as their number nine batsman, Greenock were unable to close out the home side’s innings as quickly as had been hoped.

Ali Mansoor with 3 for 29 in his 10 overs was the most successful bowler for Greenock. Four others picked up one wicket and Ewan Stewart got 2 for 31 from his 7 overs.

For Greenock, the outcome of the afternoon was very frustrating as this was a match which had been targeted for a win to lift the team up the league table. Now the Glenpark side must look to the last six league fixtures to gain a number of wins which will lead to a comfortable position in the league table.

Glenpark XI: Greenock’s 2nd XI (Glenpark) almost got their tactics correct against Clydesdale’s 4th XI at Glenpark. Having won the toss, Clydesdale were inserted and bowled out for 107 in 27.2 overs. And the

Glenpark XI were all set for a big win having scored 80 runs for the loss of three wickets after only 12 overs. But then the rain arrived in Greenock, and a win which looked a formality was thwarted as thematch had to be abandoned.
