PLANNING permission has been given for a blueprint to transform the rundown Clune Park estate in Port Glasgow into a new neighbourhood.
Councillors on Inverclyde Planning Board approved an application made by Inverclyde Council for a residential development of up to 135 properties.
It is based on a masterplan drawn up in 2023 which proposes a mixture of one and two-bedroom flats and two, three and four-bedroom houses provided within two, three and four-storey buildings.

The southern carriageway of Glasgow Road is included in the land proposed for development along with the sites of former school and church buildings.
No objections were received and planning officials had recommended approval.
Their report states that since the approval of the masterplan, interest in both private and affordable housing provision on the site has emerged from the development sector.
Officials also stated: The proposed development offers a significant opportunity to regenerate a derelict brownfield site within the urban area. It will provide an opportunity to transform an area which has suffered from decline over recent decades into an area which local residents and future generations can enjoy and benefit from.
“The final design and appearance of the buildings will have to be applied for in future detailed applications in terms of how they relate to each plot, neighbouring plots and to surrounding development.
“It is however considered that the indicative layout which shows where houses and flats could be positioned/possible build zones within the site and character areas are acceptable at this stage.”
The entire estate was originally made up of around 430 residential properties across 45 tenement blocks.
Large scale demolition has been underway since last summer.
