WORK is underway on a £225,000 ‘destination’ play park in Port Glasgow — featuring a castle, boat and train.
Inverclyde Council is creating the fun facility at Parklea on land between the car park and the railway line.

Construction began in mid-April and is expected to last 10 weeks, depending on the weather.

Play equipment will include: two multi-play climbing frames; a single bay swing with two cradle seats; a double bay swing with two flat seats and a basket swing; a group rope swing; a wheelchair carousel; a seesaw; a spinner bowl; a train and carriage; a boat; a sit-on spring sea lion; a stand-on spinner; a trampoline; somersault bars; a zipline; and three play panels.
A report previously presented to Inverclyde councillors stated: “The new destination-style play area at Parklea will mean that we have three large destination type play areas throughout the district. [the others are at Battery Park and Lunderston Bay]

“The installation of a destination play park in the east of Inverclyde ensures coverage of play park facilities with a balanced geographical coverage.
“Furthermore the Parklea development would join up with a number of other key initiatives in this area and enhances and supports the works carried out by both Inverclyde Leisure and Parklea Branching Out.
“The overall footfall lends itself to this type of facility.”
