ONE of the tallest cargoes ever floated down the Clyde was the Dunbar oil and gas rig built at the UiE yard in Clydebank for Total.
The 250-foot high drilling and production deck was too high to get under the Erskine Bridge so its derrick and flare tower were removed while it was towed by five tugs down river.
A crane more than 300 feet high was used to lift them back into place at the Ocean Terminal at Greenock during fitting out in May/June 1994 before the 9,000-tonne structure left for the North Sea.
