PUPILS at a Gourock primary school were treated to a pop concert in their gym hall today, after winning a prize draw organised by national commercial radio station STV Radio and the STV Children’s Appeal.

St Ninian’s Primary was one of many Scottish schools that hosted a Big Scottish Breakfast event in aid of the appeal and was entered into a draw to win the exclusive concert. Two of Scotland’s most exciting rising music stars, Ben Walker and Kevin McGuire, performed for the school’s 350 pupils, with the latter even joined by a team of line dancers to lead the kids in a choreographed group dance.

STV Radio presenters Ewen Cameron and Cat Harvey hosted the concert, after the winning school was announced on Ewen and Cat at Breakfast last week. The duo delighted pupils with a series of fun games.

They said: “When the STV Children’s Appeal asked us to organise a concert for 350 kids, we knew just the lads to bring with us! The young team absolutely love Ben and Kevin, and we’re so grateful to them for helping us make today’s event so special. All of us at STV Radio are proud supporters of the STV Children’s Appeal and it makes our jobs just that little bit sweeter when we get to help make a difference to children’s lives.”

Martin Craig, headteacher at St Ninian’s Primary, said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome the concert to St Ninian’s. The excitement among our pupils was incredible and the surprise performances created memories that will stay with them for years to come. We’re extremely grateful to the STV Children’s Appeal, STV Radio and everyone involved in making this special opportunity possible. The enthusiasm, joy and sense of community throughout the day was amazing to see and sums up life at St Ninian’s!”

The STV Children’s Appeal’s Big Scottish Breakfast campaign, in partnership with Kellogg’s, encourages Scots to get together with friends, family, colleagues or classmates to share breakfast and raise funds. Every penny raised funds school breakfast clubs throughout Scotland and helps tackle child hunger.
