PLANNERS In Favour Of Shop Proposal For Greenock Pub Premises

28 April, 2026 | Local

COUNCIL officials are recommending approval for a plan to turn a former Greenock pub into a convenience store.

The change-of-use application for the Broomhill Tavern on Drumfrochar Road will be considered by councillors on Inverclyde Planning Board next week.

The shop would be open from 7am to 11pm, and employ around seven full-time and five part-time staff.

If the proposal is approved, a glazed frontage would be added to the building.

Eighteen objections were received from members of the public raising various issues including traffic, parking, road safety, anti-social behaviour and alcohol sales.

But council planners are in favour of the application and are urging councillors to grant permission.

Their report states: “The proposal would bring a vacant unit back into active use, providing goods and services to the benefit of the local community, and would provide economic benefits to the local area through local employment opportunities.”
