ALMOST 600 people gathered at Everton Scout Camp, Inverkip to mark the site’s centenary.
Current members of the Scouting movement — including Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Networkers and leaders — were joined by former leaders along with friends and family to celebrate.

Guests included Lord Lieutenant Peter McCarthy, Provost Drew McKenzie and Ronnie Cowan MP.
Visitors enjoyed stalls and activities including Zorb-football, archery and grass-sledging which ran throughout the day.

Leapmoor Pipe band played as the trek cart was manhandled down into the parade ground by former leaders from the district executive team, helped by some of the younger Scouts.
The trek cart was used long before mini buses to bring tents and camp kit up to Everton.

Camp skipper Alan Newbigging has stepped down from his post, handing on the baton to Gary Mcluskey who thanked him for all his hard work.

District Commissioner Dr Martin Buchan made a number of presentations including to father and daughter Jim and Fiona Bell.
Two Cubs received their Silver Chief Scout awards and Alan Newbigging was given a Commissioner’s Award for all his hard work helping Everton become the great site that it is. His wife Shona was presented with an award for all her help with Scouting including helping at the Gang Show.

Steven McGrath and Stuart Wilson were both presented with the Award for Merit.
Ruth Bennett received her 40-year service award.
Appropriately some Scouts were camping overnight and they made dinner and enjoyed a campfire and some songs once the crowds had departed.
