INVERCLYDE followed last weekend’s fine 20-run win away to Mearns with a six-wicket home victory against Hillhead 3rds at Gourock Park.
Paul Singh struck early in his second over with two wickets in two balls to leave the visitors one for two after four overs, then Mohammad Anwar bowled Bartlett in the seventh over.
Inverclyde’s change bowlers, helped by their fielders, increased the pressure as wickets fell regularly. Butt and Balaji provided some resistance but Hillhead were bowled out in the 31st over for 102 runs. Singh finished with three wickets for 14, Anwar two for 20, Ibrahim Haidari two for 18, Marwan two for 20 and Sahil one for 13. Five catches were taken in the innings, held by Blair, Lappin, Haw, Haidari and Marwan.
Inverclyde’s captain Gordon Lappin and Mohammad Anwar opened the reply in good form until Lappin was caught and bowled by Butt for 12, and Anwar was caught two overs later with Inverclyde at 30 for 2. However Ally Haw and Marwan took the score to 75 in the 17th over when Marwan was caught for 38. However Haw (13 not out) and Asad Naisiri (18 not out) comfortably saw Inverclyde through to the win in the 21st over.
These two victories take Inverclyde up to fourth in the league, and have an important fixture next weekend when they meet league leaders Kelburn.
