THE Allegria mixed voice choir begins its new season next week.
Weekly rehearsals get under way on Tuesday 8 September between 7.15pm and 9.15pm in the Islay Hall at Old Gourock and Ashton Parish Church in Binnie Street, Gourock.
Molly Bryce, a founder member, stated : “Allegria was set up in 2022 to give local people who have performed on stage throughout their lives the opportunity to continue to make music. It is also a very social activity. Being a member of the choir is good for the well-being of those who come along, as it gets people out of the house, meeting others and sharing in the joy of music.”
Those interested in going along will be made very welcome at the rehearsals.
Members perform a varied repertoire including songs from the shows plus Christmas, popular and Scottish music. There will be Christmas and spring concerts.
Conductor for the 2026/27 season is Ann Lawrence and accompanist is David Mackie, who was formerly the musical director of the famous D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, based in London.
