DEMOLITION work is underway at Clyde Square for the £24million UK-Government funded Central Greenock project.

The former commercial units on the Wellpark Mid Kirk side of the Square and the paved entrance area in front of Hector McNeil House have been knocked down first along with the spiral walkway which led up to the building’s entrance.

The next stage will be demolition of Hector McNeil House which opened in 1970 as Greenock Central Library, but was converted into local authority offices in 2015.

The Central Greenock project includes demolition of the eastern section of the Oak Mall, the A78 High Street flyover, and the Bullring Roundabout.

A low-level road and traffic light junction will be installed to replace the flyover and roundabout.

A new Oak Mall entrance, additional public areas, and more green spaces will also be created.
