HIT musical We Will Rock You is coming to Greenock in November, in a production featuring a cast of almost 50 local drama enthusiasts.
Greenock Light Opera Club (GLOC) is staging the show at the Beacon Arts Centre.
We Will Rock You, written by author and comedian Ben Elton, is based around the songs of Queen and tells the story of a renegade group known as the Bohemians. Songs include Bohemian Rhapsody, A Kind of Magic, Radio Ga Ga, We Are the Champions, and Another One Bites the Dust.
There will be five performances, from Wednesday 11 November to Saturday 14 November, 7.30 each night and a Saturday matinee at 2:30pm. Hundreds of tickets have already been sold, but plenty more are still available.
Cast member Michael McDiarmid, who plays Galileo, said: “It’s a real 3-60 moment for me as We Will Rock You was the first musical I’d seen on stage as a teenager. Now I get to perform this dream role in an iconic musical filled with some of the best songs in history alongside an amazingly talented cast. The whole experience has gone by in a flash but is certainly one I’ll remember forever.”
Debbie Main, who plays Scaramouche, said: “Scaramouche has been a part I’ve wanted to play since I was 15. Thinking I’d never get the opportunity, GLOC have welcomed me in with open arms to live out this bucket list part and I can’t wait to share the stage with each and every one of them. The cast have one vision for this show. To sell it out.”
Club secretary Ilaria Moretti said: “Although we are an amateur group, we always get great feedback from audiences and, as always, we aim to make our production as professional as possible.”
GLOC president Katie Howlett said: “We really appreciate all the support locally, and are so thankful to people who have bought tickets. There’s still time to get a ticket, so grab yours now.”
GLOC was founded in 1975 by three former Greenock Academy pupils. It now has around 80 members and produces an annual musical every November.
