THERE were 11 suspected drug-related deaths and more than 100 reported near-fatal overdoses in Inverclyde in the year up to the end of March.

Police Scotland said there was a spike of three drugs fatalities in December.

Their report states: “While formal toxicology reports are pending, preliminary assessments suggest the involvement of substances such as cocaine, synthetics, heroin, benzodiazepines, and cannabis.

“Furthermore, there were 102 reported near-fatal overdoses during the same timeframe, primarily linked to heroin and benzodiazepines.

“To mitigate these harms, we remain committed to working with our partners to disrupt local drug supply chains and provide preventative education within schools and community groups.
