‘DESTINATION’ Play Park Planned For Port Glasgow

COUNCIL officials are proposing to invest around £225,000 on a new ‘destination’ play park in Port Glasgow.

It would be at Parklea on land beside the car park between the community stadium and the Branching Out complex.

A report updating Inverclyde councillors states: “The new destination-style play area at Parklea will mean that we have three large destination type play areas throughout the district. [the others are at Battery Park and Lunderston Bay]

“The installation of a destination play park in the east of Inverclyde ensures coverage of play park facilities with a balanced geographical coverage.

“Furthermore the Parklea development would join up with a number of other key initiatives in this area and enhances and supports the works carried out by both Inverclyde Leisure and Parklea Branching Out.

“The overall footfall lends itself to this type of facility.”

The council was allocated around £315,000 from the Scottish Government for play area investment.

The rest of the money will go on replacing the outdoor gym at Battery Park and new equipment and resurfacing at the Burns Square play area in Larkfield, Greenock.
