COUNCILLORS have voted to overturn refusal of permission for shops and a takeaway in Port Glasgow.
Rubble Shift Landscaping Ltd appealed after Inverclyde Council officials ruled against the plan for two neighbourhood retails units, a hot food outlet and a tool hire business on the site of the former Unity social club at Southfield Avenue.

Planners felt the proposal was too close to the shops at Dubbs Road.
Inverclyde Local Review Body considered the appeal today and voted to grant permission for the development.
Councillor Stephen McCabe said: “I am not convinced by the argument of the planning officer. I don’t see it as in competition with Dubbs Road.
“Also there is a dearth of hot food takeaway in upper Port Glasgow. I can only think of three. This would be an asset for the community.”
The former social club burned down in 2017.
