CHILDREN Can Sign Up For Inverclyde’s Summer Reading Challenge

YOUNGSTERS are being encouraged to pick up a book and take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

Inverclyde libraries are once again taking part in the initiative, which is being run in partnership with the Reading Agency.

Aimed at four to 11-year-olds, this summer’s theme is Read to the Beat with children challenged to read six books over the summer holidays, earning stickers as they go.

The challenge runs until Monday 31 August, and children can sign up at their local library any time.

Children can also drop in and sign up all day in the entertainment tent at the Comet Festival in Coronation Park, Port Glasgow on Saturday (20 June).

Attending library activities with a story theme will also count towards the challenge, meaning more ways to earn stickers.

When children have completed the challenge, they will receive a certificate and will also be in with a chance of winning an author visit to their school.

All children who complete it will also be invited to a celebration event in Port Glasgow Town Hall in September, where they will receive their medals.

A ‘mini challenge’ will also run for children under four.
