AIR Cadets Seek New Volunteers

15 June, 2026 | Local

GREENOCK’S Royal Air Force Air Cadets are appealing for new adult volunteers to join the team and help inspire young people across Inverclyde.

The 49F Squadron is recruiting civilian instructors aged 20 and over who are passionate about supporting, mentoring and developing young people. No military experience is required, and volunteers come from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds.

The RAF Air Cadets provides opportunities for young people aged 12 to 20 to take part in aviation, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), leadership, sport, music, adventure training, flying, gliding and community activities.

The squadron is looking for enthusiastic individuals who can support weekly parade nights, training activities and occasional weekend events. Volunteers may help deliver lessons and activities, support administration, mentor cadets and contribute to creating a safe, inclusive and positive environment where young people can thrive.

In return, volunteers gain valuable leadership, coaching and communication experience, access to nationally recognised training and qualifications, and opportunities for personal development. They also become part of a supportive volunteer community and have the chance to make a genuine difference in the lives of local young people.

Volunteers can also attend regional and national RAF Air Cadets events, camps and exercises. After a period of service, there are opportunities to progress into specialist or uniformed volunteer roles if desired.

Flight Lieutenant Vanda Nicholls, officer commanding at 49F Squadron, said: “Volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Whether you have experience in leadership, teaching, engineering, administration, outdoor activities or simply want to give something back to your community, there is a place for you within the RAF Air Cadets. The impact you can have on a young person’s confidence, skills and future aspirations is truly rewarding.”

Applicants should be at least 20 years old, have a positive attitude and be willing to undertake training, safeguarding requirements, PVG membership and security checks.
