POLICE called out a helicopter to search for a driver who sped off from officers instead of stopping his vehicle in Greenock last night.
A patrol had reason to request that the car pull over in Banff Road, Larkfield around 9.20pm.
Sergeant Jason Logsdon said: “The car failed to stop and sped off from police and was abandoned a short time later.
“The driver fled into wasteland leaving a passenger in the vehicle.
“Assistance was requested from police air support to attend. Despite an extensive area search, officers were unable to trace the driver.
“The vehicle was seized and a small quantity of drugs believed to be cannabis was recovered.”
Efforts continue to trace the driver. Police are following a positive line of inquiry.
