AN online appeal has raised more than £13,000 for the family of a detective who was found dead at Greenock police station.

Detective Constable Gordon Gibson (42) tragically passed away on Saturday while off duty. His body was found by colleagues.

More than 600 people have now donated to a Just Giving appeal set up to provide financial support to his wife and two young children.

The appeal page states: “Having joined Strathclyde Police in 2001, Gordon worked in K division as a dedicated uniform and drugs unit officer in Paisley. He later joined Police Scotland becoming a highly respected detective constable within the CID before being transferred to Greenock police office.

“Gordon brought happiness to all who knew him with his cheeky and mischievous sense of humour, his infectious laugh and larger-than-life personality.

“He is well known as a humble yet fearless officer who was always the one other cops relied upon should they find themselves in jeopardy.

“Gordon will be missed by all who knew him.”

The  death is not being treated as suspicious.

Detective Superintendent Mark Bell of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division, said: “We can sadly confirm that a serving officer died at Greenock Police Station on Saturday, 21 December, 2019.

“Support is being provided to family, and his colleagues, at this incredibly difficult time.”
