Inverclyde Now Logo ‘THANKS For Staying At Home’, Say Police And Council

RESIDENTS across Inverclyde have been praised for sticking to the stay at home advice ahead of another weekend of the coronavirus lockdown.

Most people have been following government guidance to only go outdoors for essential food, medicine, exercise or work — even over the Easter break.

Councillor Tommy McVey, who chairs Inverclyde Council’s Police and Fire Scrutiny Committee, said: “The feedback from our partners at Police Scotland is that the vast majority of people in Inverclyde are sticking to the rules and only leaving their home if it is absolutely necessary.

“This was particularly evident during the Easter long weekend and I’d like to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who adhered to the safety guidance.

“As we enter another weekend of lockdown, it is vital that we all stay indoors to protect the NHS and continue to slow the spread of coronavirus.

“While it is extremely challenging, we must all continue to do our bit now to help the health service and loved ones. It will take time but we will get through this.”

Chief Inspector Debbie Reilly, Inverclyde’s area commander, said: “We really want to thank the majority of the public who did adhere to the guidelines during the Easter weekend and for all they are doing to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

“There will always be an element of non-compliance but, overall, the people of Inverclyde have been sticking to the stay at home safety message and we really appreciate their tolerance during these extremely challenging times.

“The public has responded very well and been supportive of policing, realising that we have a job to do. We’re delighted with the messages and other types of support we’ve received.

“We’re also really grateful for the help from our partners at Inverclyde Council to serve the people of Inverclyde –- a strong partnership which has been particularly evident over the last few weeks.”
