THE Care Inspectorate has ordered a Gourock care service to make urgent improvements following an inspection.
Karma Healthcare, based at Moorfield Lane, Gourock, must meet the requirements over the next few weeks.
One of the four improvements required relates to making sure clients receive medication properly.
A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: “An inspection has identified significant concerns about the quality of care experienced by people receiving care from Karma Healthcare.
“We understand this is a difficult and distressing time for those experiencing care, their families and staff at the service. However, our first priority is always the health and wellbeing of people.
“Because of our concerns we have issued an Improvement Notice. This sets out the significant improvements that must be made within a specified timeframe. We are in contact with and monitoring the service to follow up on the required improvements.”
Karma must ensure that people using the service receive their daily medication as prescribed, the right medications and at the right time, by 8 February.
Also by 8 February, the company must ensure that effective leadership and management arrangements are in place to support the safe and consistent operation of the service, which minimises potential risks to people using the service.
Karma must ensure that there is the appropriate number of staff working to meet the assessed needs of people using the service and promote continuity of care, by 20 February.
By the same date, the company must implement effective quality assurance systems, identify potential risks to people using the service and ensure timely action is taken to improve outcomes for people using the service
The Care Inspectorate state: “Where more than one improvement is specified, failure to demonstrate compliance with any one of the improvements within the required timescale may result in us proceeding to make a proposal to cancel registration.”
