SCULPTURAL Sea Life Seating Proposed For Waterfront Site

9 July, 2021 | Local

DESIGNS for a new artwork bench installation beside the Clyde at Greenock have been submitted for planning approval.

The proposal is part of a project by active travel organisation Sustrans to enhance the path along the waterfront.

The structure — ‘Ebb and Flow’ by artist Alan Potter — is described in planning documents as “water flow-inspired bench seating arranged in a spiral pattern”. It would be located on an area near the West College Waterfront campus.

The benches would be made of oak and inlaid with porcelain mosaics depicting typical Clyde sea life such as mackerel, salmon, flounder and crab.

In the centre of the spiral would be a seal pup on top of a boulder.

There would also be a curved steel and pebble mosaic.

A planning application lodged with Inverclyde Council is now pending assessment by officials.
