INVERCLYDE Council have apologised after anti-independence content was shared on one of its social media feeds.
The Twitter account for Gourock Highland Games, which has around 450 followers, re-tweeted an item someone had posted featuring political newspaper articles about Scottish independence with the comment: “I will never vote to separate. Emotionally and financially I’m in the UK.”
One member of the public who noticed it commented: “Should you be retweeting political stuff from an account that promotes Gourock Highland Games?”
A spokesman for the council said: “We have examined this and it is clear that this retweet was done in error.
“It has been deleted and the council apologises to followers for any confusion caused by this.
“Mistakes can happen easily using social media accounts and by their nature these errors happen on a public forum.
“Staff will be reminded of the need to be careful to avoid accidentally promoting inappropriate messages.”
