Carriageway damage on Dunrod Road, in December 2019

CLOSURE of an Inverclyde country route, leading to Loch Thom, has been extended.

Dunrod Road was initially shut to all traffic between Majeston and Shielhill Farm on 28 July.

The closure is now expected to remain in place until at least the end of October because the carriageway is unsafe.

Access to Greenock Cut visitor centre at Cornalees is only via Old Largs Road.

A statement issued by Inverclyde Council in July explained: “This is in the interests of public safety due to concerns about movement of the road surface.

“The section of Dunrod Road has been monitored and in the past couple of weeks there has been an increase in the movement.

“Investigations will continue to determine a suitable way forward to bring the road back into use at the earliest opportunity.”

The road has been shut on previous occasions for emergency carriageway work.
