PUBLIC Invited To Port Glasgow Ferry Launch

5 April, 2024 | Clyde Shipping, Local

FERGUSON Marine shipyard, Port Glasgow, is inviting the Inverclyde community to its ferry launch on Tuesday (9 April).

The yard gates will be open from 12.30pm, with Hull 802 scheduled to go down the slipway around 1.30pm. Access to the yard will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be a naming ceremony with a celebratory bottle smash on the vessel and a blessing of the ship.

Once complete, the ferry — to be named MV Glen Rosa — will have capacity for up to 852 passengers plus 127 cars, or 16 heavy goods vehicles or a combination of both. She is due to be completed by September 2025.

The launch marks another significant milestone in the delivery of the two new CalMac ferries, after the success of sister vessel MV Glen Sannox’s initial sea trials in February.

John Petticrew, interim chief executive at Ferguson Marine, said: “The launch of Hull 802 is an important milestone. The majority of our workforce live in Inverclyde or the surrounding areas. That’s why we’re inviting the local community to join us for this milestone event.

“The progress on Hull 802 demonstrates the hard work being done by everyone at the yard as we stay focused on getting both ferries delivered as soon as possible.”
