MOTORISTS face disruption on the A8 eastbound in Greenock while resurfacing is carried out over six nights.

Contractor Scotland TranServ will be working on 500 metres of the route between Pottery Street and Bogston.

There will be overnight closures at the following times:

— 8pm on Sunday 21 June to 6am on Monday 22 June

— 8pm on Monday 22 June to 6am on Tuesday 23 June

— 8pm on Tuesday 23 June to 6am on Wednesday 24 June

— 8pm on Wednesday 24 June to 6am on Thursday 25 June

— 8pm on Thursday 25 June to 6am on Friday 26 June

— 8pm on Friday 26 June to 6am on Saturday 27 June

Local diversions will be in place. Traffic management will only be implemented once traffic volumes are sufficiently low. Special arrangements will be in place for emergency service vehicle access.

Drivers requiring to use the A8 for essential journeys are advised to allow some extra time to travel the diversion route.

Brendan O’Sullivan, Scotland TranServ’s area network manager, said: “It is important that we resurface this area in order to maintain road safety. Traffic volumes currently remain low, in line with government advice, and the programme can therefore be carried out safely and with minimal disruption.

“The health and safety of our workers, our contractors and the travelling public is of paramount importance to Scotland TranServ. Working in collaboration with Transport Scotland, we have identified the resurfacing of this section of the A8 as essential to the safety of the trunk road network.”
