20 August, 2019 | Local

GREENOCK parkrun was the first stop for two far-flung visitors — one in town to get married and the other on a cruise.

Organisers of the weekly event welcome a runner from Houston, Texas who was in Greenock to marry a local man.

Meanwhile a runner from Sydney, Australia, was on board on the Queen Victoria cruise ship and also took the chance to complete the five-kilometre run on The Esplanade.

They were among 15 first-timers with others from varied areas around the UK including St Andrew’s, Huntly, Stoke-on-Trent and Harrow.

Sixteen people achieving personal best times over the course — David Holmes, Calum Brennan, Gordon Robertson, Niall Brennan, Angus Shearer, Graeme Boyer, Elspeth Laird, John O’Neill,Thomas Alm, Andrew Johnson, Alan Adair, Sarah Barry, Tony Day, Irene Mcintosh, Harry Mooney and Janice Lowles.

Aimee McEleny started her 8th birthday celebration by doing parkrun, living up to the message on her t-shirt.
