Inverclyde Now Logo CRICKET — Greenock And Dumfries Play Bounce Game After Fixture Called Off

30 April, 2018 | Local

IT was a frustrating day at Glenpark on Saturday when, with overhead conditions perfect for cricket, the ground did not pass an inspection by the umpires, who felt that there were some areas of the outfield that were not fit for play because of the recent wet weather.

The scheduled noon start was delayed and, after inspections at 1pm and again at 2pm, the umpires called off the match against Dumfries around 2.15pm.

The teams however were of a different opinion and, with the match officially ‘off’, immediately decided that the conditions were perfectly suitable for play and agreed to get in some match practice and played a 25-overs a side ‘bounce’ match.

Dumfries won by four wickets gaining two runs off the very last ball of their 25-over innings.

There were no issues presented by the ground during ‘the match’ and players and spectators alike were left frustrated and bemused with the umpires’ earlier decision to call the Premier League match off.
