THE SNP group on Inverclyde Council has chosen Councillor Elizabeth Robertson as their new leader.

She replaces Councillor Chris McEleny who stood down after serving as leader since 2013

Councillor Robertson, who was elected in May 2017 and won best new councillor in Scotland-wide awards, said: “It was an honour to accept this, and will be an even greater honour to undertake this role.

“Councillor Chris Curley was elected as my depute and we will continue to work together, with our colleagues, to bring forward our plans for improvements and positive change in our area and people’s lives.”

She added: “Thanks go to Chris McEleny, our previous group leader, for the passion and energy he has brought to the council chamber in pursuit of social justice.

“Whilst our leadership has changed, the passion and energy for Inverclyde will certainly remain.”
