PLANS for major demolition work at the former IBM site at Spango Valley have been lodged with Inverclyde Council.
Officials are being asked to approve demolition of 12 semi-derelict buildings and ancillary structures.
These include several office buildings, a call centre building, the canteen, clubhouse, a chemical store building and factory high bays one to six.
The proposals are pending cosnideration by council building standards staff.

The last IBM staff at Spango Valley moved out in September and there is no other commercial activity there.
Consultation on the future of the 56-hectare site is taking place at the moment as part of the process to draw up an updated planning strategy for the whole of Inverclyde.
Planning officials say “there is a case” for increasing the amount of land that can be developed for housing at at Spango Valley.
The preferred option is the preparation of a comprehensive development framework for the site, with 50 per cent of the land identified for housing development, 35 per cent for business and industrial uses and the balance for recreation, leisure, tourism and neighbourhood retail uses.
