PORT Glasgow Golf Club hosted this year’s Inverclyde Golf Junior Champion of Champions event.

It featured the 2021 junior champions from local clubs: Callum Watters (Gourock), Zack Docherty (Port Glasgow) and Nathan Love (Greenock and Whinhill).

The title was decided by an 18-hole strokeplay round, with the best scratch score being declared the winner.

The match was played in windy conditions not making scoring easy on a course in terrific condition.

Play was of a very high standard given the blustery conditions. At the turn there were only five shots in it, with Callum ahead of Nathan.

Zack had an unfortunate run in the middle of the front nine (not helped by some bad luck) before showing his true quality on the back nine. The highlight of his round was an excellent birdie two on the 11th.

Nathan also produced some great golf on the back nine, with two threes and three fours in his last eight holes.

This applied some pressure to Callum but he had a terrific back nine of level fours with the highlight being an eagle three at the 10th hole to win the trophy by 12 shots.

Inverclyde Golf thank Robert Ingram and all at Port Glasgow Golf Club for hosting the event.

The match was played in an excellent sporting manner and mutual respect between the competitors was evident.

All champions were tremendous ambassadors for their golf clubs.
