A HOUSEHOLDER who went to investigate after someone smashed his window ended up being assaulted by the culprit.

The 49-year-old resident needed hospital treatment following the incident in Sir Michael Street on Friday around 10.30pm.

The suspect is in his late 30s, stocky and was wearing a black woolly hat, a black hooded jumper and blue jeans.

Detectives are treating the incident as a serious assault and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 101.

They are particularly keen to hear from the driver of a blue Ford Focus who passed the attack and asked stewards at The Exchange wine bar nearby to report it.
