DETECTIVES have revealed that a vehicle they believe was used in a drive-by shooting in Greenock was later found burnt out.

A major investigation is underway into the incident in which a 37-year-old man was fired at as he walked in Brachelston Street around 6pm on Tuesday. He was not injured.

A webpage has been set up to encourage members of the public to submit information to officers.

The Major Incident Public Portal is a website that gives the public access to a form so they can send information directly to the major incident teams based at the Scottish Crime Campus.

The gunman is believed to have been in a stolen white Hyundai Tucson. Police say the vehicle was found burnt out at Mallard Crescent, Greenock around 3.45am on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Cameron Miller, senior investigating officer, said: “This was a reckless act in broad daylight, carried out in a busy residential area. While nobody was injured in this attack, the risk posed to members of the public cannot be understated.”

Officers want to hear from anyone who may have seen the Hyundai Tucson in the hours after the shooting. Anyone who has dash-cam is urged to check it and send any relevant footage via the online portal.
