AN action-packed season of sport and social events is lined up as Gourock Golf Club celebrates its 125th anniversary.

It was on 28 April 1896 that a meeting was held in the Gamble Institute, Shore Street, Gourock to ‘consider the proposal to form a golf club in Gourock’.

Over the following 125 years, the club expanded from its initial nine holes into 18 and, in so doing, gradually moved further west in the town.

Through the decades, there have been four clubhouses, with the present facility in Cowal View having been built in 1964, as part of the Trumpethill housing development.

The club has recently completed a £250,000 upgrade to its facilities and has a number of golf and social events arranged throughout 2021 to celebrate the anniversary.

At the centre of this will be a big charity event planned for early July, the full details of which will be announced later this month.

To start the season, the club held a fun all-members’ scramble in early May with a fantastic total of 240 members taking part.

Each was greeted by either Captain Neil Beaton or Vice-Captain Norma Ramsay as they stepped onto the 1st tee and presented with a 125th logo’d ball and encouraged not to lose it on the 1st hole.

The scoring over the weekend was very competitive with the final top placings being:
