
SCOTT Newman of Gourock Golf Club was crowned winner of the Greenock and District Junior Championship.
The contest has been running since 1953 and is held at the four Inverclyde golf clubs on a rota basis, with Gourock being the host this year.
The competition is open to all Junior golfers (under the age of 18 before the 1 January 2023) who are members of the clubs in the Tail o’ the Bank area –- Cowal, Gleddoch, Gourock, Greenock, Lochwinnoch, Port Glasgow, Skelmorlie and Whinhill.
The trophy is awarded to the winner of the scratch section and Scott won this with a magnificent gross 73. Runner-up was the 2021 and 2022 Greenock District Junior Champion Callum Watters (Gourock G.C.) with a gross score of 75. Third was Dean Black (Greenock G.C.) with a gross score of 86.
The handicap section was won by Adam MacNaughton (Gourock G.C.) courtesy of a better inward half, after Adam along with Nathan Love (Greenock G.C.) and Oliver Bowker (Greenock G.C.) all returned fantastic nett scores of 67.
The pre-handicap section was won by Aaron Duffy of Gourock Golf Club.
Organisers thank all at Gourock G.C. for hosting the event, especially Ian Samuel (Gourock G.C. Junior Convenor) and Derek Watters (Gourock G.C. Professional) and to all the volunteers who helped.
