PLANNING officials have approved a high-quality, contemporary house with artist’s studio in Kilmacolm.

The existing property at Craigrowan House, Porterfield Road, will be demolished and replaced with the new three-bedroom home.

A design document submitted by Technique Architecture and Design as part of the planning application stated: “The existing house was built in the 1970s and contributes very little to its surroundings, it is largely hidden from almost all viewpoints and the elevational design is unremarkable.”

It continues: “The house is to be designed using quality materials, with excellent environmental performance and to have a strong relationship to the mature garden and surrounding trees and views beyond.

“The house is to blend into the surroundings and become part of the garden.

“The design does not seek to replicate the surrounding dwellings, which themselves display a large variation in styles. Instead it offers a positive contemporary contribution to the area which is low-lying, unobtrusive and uses the highest quality of materials.

“It is our view that this offers a significant improvement to the existing property without any adverse impact upon the surrounding properties and neighbouring golf club.”

Large picture windows will frame the views from each room with the main living space offering “a more dramatic panorama” only interrupted by a feature fireplace.
