A SERVICE to mark the start of Inverclyde’s Remembrance commemorations will take place on Saturday (October 24).
The event at Wellpark in Greenock, hosted by Inverclyde’s depute provost Graeme Brooks, signals the beginning of the 2026 Inverclyde Poppy Appeal with the opening of the Garden of Remembrance.
A short service will be led by the Rev Dougie Adam after which crosses bearing poppies will be laid in the park by those in attendance, including representatives from Poppyscotland and Inverclyde Council.

Members of Greenock Air Cadet Corps will form a guard of honour and a bugler will play to close.
The service is an opportunity to pay respects to the men and women killed in service over the years and supports Poppyscotland’s fundraising efforts across Inverclyde to help current and former members of the Armed Forces and their families.
The service starts at 11am and all are welcome to attend.
Councillor Brooks will then pay tribute to those killed in the Greenock Blitz by visiting Greenock Cemetery to lay wreaths at the memorials there. Members of the public are also welcome to attend at the cemetery.
