FOUR young people who graduated as music teachers in the summer and all attended secondary schools in Inverclyde perform at the Beacon Arts Centre on Sunday.

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduates, who are now probationary music teachers in Inverclyde, Renfrew and Glasgow, will give recitals that they played for the final part of their degrees.

Alexandra Griffin (22) attended Clydeview Academy, Gourock, and plays flute, Archie Morris (22) attended St Columba’s, Kilmacolm and plays flute and piano, Mark Robertson (23), a former pupils of Inverclyde Academy, Greenock, plays piano and sings, and 21-year-old Michael Hepburn, who attended St Stephen’s High School, Port Glasgow, and plays trombone and sings.

Mark said: “A local Inverclyde man attended each of our recitals at the Conservatoire and was so impressed with our performances and the fact that we all came from Inverclyde and had all attended different Inverclyde schools, that he encouraged us and has sponsored us to put on a performance at the Beacon.”

He added: “Inverclyde schools provide a fantastic opportunity for young people to flourish in music. Attending the Conservatoire for the past four years has been the icing on the cake and each of us has a real desire to pass on to young people what we have learned and that’s why we are all starting our careers as music teachers in secondary schools.

“We’re really looking forward to performing and we hope that we will have a good turnout to hear and enjoy the variety of instruments and music performed.”

The Four Teachers perform An Afternoon Of Classics on Sunday (3 November) at 2.30 at the Beacon, Greenock. Tickets are £6 and can be purchased at the Beacon, online or at the door.
