THE operator of Greenock’s Esplanade Cafe wants to open a coffee shop and hot food takeaway at a vacant pub.

Marco Medinelli, of M&R Properties, has applied for permission to change the use of part of the ground floor of the former Overdraft bar/ Melrose Lounge on the corner of Old Inverkip Road and Inverkip Road, at Barr’s Cottage, Greenock.

Drawings submitted to Inverclyde Council’s planning department show signage for Melrose Pizza and Pasta.

The takeaway would be open 11am to 1am, seven days a week, and the coffee shop’s hours would be 9am to 6pm, also seven days.

A new shopfront would be installed for the takeaway element of the premises. The coffee shop entrance would be at the side of the building.

The application is pending consideration by officials.
