DRIVERS Warned Over Four Weeks Of A8 Roadworks

MOTORISTS face a month of disruption on the A8 between the roundabouts at Woodhall, Port Glasgow and Langbank.

Contractors Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential maintenance from Sunday 8 May until Saturday 11 June.

Work will initially take place overnight before moving to a 24-hour operation with various closures and contraflow arrangements in place. The diversion for overnight closures will be via Kilmacolm and Bridge of Weir.

The work will be carried out using the following traffic management:

Sunday 8 May to Monday 23 May: Offside lane closures to facilitate crossover construction and preparatory works at various stages both eastbound and westbound between 8pm and 6am each night.

Sunday 8 May to Friday 13 May: Total overnight closures eastbound from Woodhall Roundabout to Langbank Roundabout between 8pm and 6am, each night.

Saturday 14 May: Convoy operation westbound between 8pm and 6am.

Sunday 15 May to Wednesday 18 May: Shuttle running on eastbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am, each night, with traffic following the A8 then Glasgow Road from Woodhall Roundabout (link road from Newark Roundabout to Woodhall Roundabout will be closed in both directions). Access to Kelburn Business Park will be maintained via Parklea Road.

Wednesday 18 May: Inner ring closure on Woodhall Roundabout for material cooling between 6am and 8pm.

Thursday 19 May to Saturday 21 May: Shuttle running on westbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am, each night, with traffic following the A8 and then Glasgow Road from Woodhall Roundabout (link road from Newark Roundabout to Woodhall Roundabout will be closed in both directions). Access to Kelburn Business Park will be maintained via A8 westbound with on site management.

Sunday 22 May: Total overnight closure eastbound from Woodhall Roundabout to Langbank Roundabout between 8pm and 6am.

Monday 23 May to Monday 30 May: Contraflow eastbound from 6am on Monday 23 May to 8pm on Monday 30 May

Monday 30 May: Works to swap the direction of the contraflow between 8pm and 6am.

Tuesday 31 May to Friday 3 June: Contraflow westbound from 6am on Tuesday 31 May until 8pm on Friday 3 June

Friday 3 June to Monday 6 June: Offside lane closures eastbound and westbound from 6am on Friday 3 June to 6am on Monday 6 June

Monday 6 June to Thursday 9 June: Contraflow westbound from 6am on Monday 6 June to 8pm on Thursday 9 June

Thursday 9 June to Saturday 11 June: Offside lane closures eastbound and westbound from 8pm on Thursday 9 June to 8pm on Saturday 11 June

Diversion Route for Overnight Closures

At the A8 Newark Roundabout, diverted traffic will take the A761 via Kilmacolm and Bridge of Weir to join the A737 eastbound. From here, vehicles will join the M8 westbound at Junction 29 St James Interchange to return to the A8 at Langbank.

A local diversion will be in place to maintain access to Finlaystone Country Park via Old Greenock Road when the main entrance is under contraflow.
