A VAN driver pulled over by police on a busy Gourock street allegedly failed a roadside drug test.
Officers on patrol stopped the vehicle on Shore Street at 10:30am on Tuesday.
Sergeant Jason Logsdon said: “On speaking to the driver, officers believed him to be intoxicated and he was required to provide a sample of saliva for a roadside drug screening test which he [allegedly] failed.
“A search of the vehicle was conducted whereby a quantity of drugs, suspected to be cannabis, was also recovered.”
The 50-year-old man was arrested and will be reported to prosecutors.
Chief Inspector Paul Cameron said: “I remain committed to ensuring the roads of Inverclyde are as safe as possible.
“People who drive under the influence of drink and drugs are a danger to themselves and to other road users.
“I am urging people to please continue to report anyone they believe is driving while intoxicated; this type of behaviour is irresponsible and can wreck lives.”
