Milngavie 2nds 160 all out
Inverclyde 48 all out
AFTER last week’s comfortable opening win, Inverclyde were well beaten by Milngavie Seconds at Gourock Park.
The side’s batting fell well short in a poor run chase, after a good display on the field.
The visitors decided to bat first and started impressively until Matt Walton bowled Kashigar in the fifth over at 29 for 1.
Paul Singh accounted for opener Prajwall after he had raced to his 50. Inverclyde captain Gareth James struck twice, with David Tolan’s catch to dismiss Bansal and then a sharp caught-and-bowled to remove Hall.
After their good start, Milngavie were held back to 84 for 4 after 18 overs. However Jain and Khair rescued the innings with an important partnership
that was only broken in the 28th over when James had Khair well held by Dave Cooke at mid-on, followed quickly by another James caught-and-bowled to dismiss Jain at 152 for 6.
Tolan had Ganesan caught behind by David Mudie, James took two further wickets, and Gordon Lappin bowled Mahajan to finish the visitors’ innings at 160 all out in the 34th over. James finished with a fine 6 for 26 in 10 overs, Lappin 1 for 4, Singh 1 for 14, Tolan 1 for 53 and Walton 1 for 57.
Inverclyde needed a good start but were restricted to 15 for 2 after 9 overs, with Milngavie’s bowlers dominating. With the required run rate increasing, Inverclyde’s batters made some poor shot choices and wickets fell regularly. The locals were bowled out for 45 runs in the 27th over to complete the heavy defeat.
Inverclyde will aim to bounce back on Sunday when they play Hillhead 3rds in Glasgow.
