Carriageway damage on Dunrod Road, in December 2019

CLOSURE of an Inverclyde country route, leading to Loch Thom, has been extended again, for three months.

Dunrod Road was initially shut to traffic because the carriageway is unsafe on 28 July last year

The closure is now expected to remain in place until at least 27 March.

Access to Greenock Cut visitor centre at Cornalees is currently only via Old Largs Road.

The closure is in place from a point 1500 metres approximately east of Majeston Farm to a point 400 metres west of Shielhill Farm.

A statement issued by Inverclyde Council in July explained: “This is in the interests of public safety due to concerns about movement of the road surface.

“The section of Dunrod Road has been monitored and in the past couple of weeks there has been an increase in the movement.

“Investigations will continue to determine a suitable way forward to bring the road back into use at the earliest opportunity.”

The road has been shut on previous occasions for emergency carriageway work.
