INVERCLYDE Council has applied for permission to demolish a historic fire-ravaged former school.
It wants listed building consent to knock down the old Clune Park Primary in Robert Street, which is C-listed and was built in 1890. It closed in 2008.
The council has also applied to demolish the neighbouring derelict Clune Park Church.

A spectacular fire engulfed the school last August.
The council say that repairing the building is not economically viable and that its demolition will assist in the delivery of a masterplan to transform the rundown Clune Park estate.

A supporting statement included with the application explains: “Having suffered such serious fire damage and ongoing vandalism, the retention of Clune Park Primary School can no longer be justified.
“Clune Park Primary School is incapable of repair; and… there are overriding, social, environmental, public safety and economic reasons in support of its demolition.”
