PLAY areas at 12 locations across Inverclyde re-open from Monday (29 June), the council has announced.

The facilities had been closed to help stop the spread of Covid 19.

The play areas (opening from 10am) are at:

— Ailsa Road and King Street, Gourock

— Both playparks and the outdoor gym at Battery Park, Greenock

— Birkmyre Park, Kilmacolm

— Boglestone and Coronation Park, Port Glasgow

— Fox Street, Leven Road, Sir Michael Street and Wellpark, Greenock

— Inverkip community centre and Wemyss Bay community centre.

Councillor Michael McCormick, convener of Inverclyde Council’s environment and regeneration committee, said: “Re-opening these play areas is a visible example of how the hard work the whole community put in during the lockdown is now starting to pay off.

“But, while Scotland has made significant progress in containing the virus, it hasn’t gone away and people still need to take precautions to protect themselves and others from catching it.

“We will be putting up signs asking people to make sure that children use hand sanitiser before and after they play on the equipment. People should also still follow the two metre (six feet) social distancing guidelines.”
