FERRY operator CalMac has donated laptops to a Greenock project which is working to reduce digital poverty and social isolation.
Belville Community Garden Trust will refurbish the 55 devices and give them to members of the community who could not otherwise access a computer.
Serge Chabert, the trust’s digital co-ordinator, said: “Belville Community Garden Trust is delighted to have received a large amount of donated laptops from CalMac for our digital device refurbishing project.
“It will help members of the community to keep in touch with their family and friends, conduct job searches, take on learning and get access to the support they need.”
Gordon McKillop, corporate social responsibility manager for CalMac, added: “We are delighted to work with the trust on this important project.
“Donating older but still working laptops helps local communities and individuals who struggle to get online because of a lack of digital equipment.
“Also, by diverting electronics away from landfill, it is an environmentally friendly option.”
