INVERCLYDE bus company McGill’s is launching a smart card – GoSmart – next month.

Customers will be able to manage their GoSmart ticket purchases via a dedicated web portal, where they can register their card, review and buy Smart multi-journey tickets.

The GoSmart card follows on from a successful network-wide launch of the company’s M-ticketing app in April 2016. Almost 10,000 customers have downloaded the McGill’s free M-ticket app, with more than 750,000 journeys on a mobile ticket in the last nine months.

Ralph Roberts, McGill’s Managing Director said: “I am delighted with the success of mobile ticketing this year, in terms of ease of use for our customers, the number of downloads and the convenience it gives our customers. Enhancements including QR codes and a gifting feature were added to our mobile offering soon after launch, and I am pleased with the positive feedback we have received from regular and new customers.”

He added: “Last year saw a strong focus on making ticketing more simple and convenient, to ensure we meet the needs of our varied customer base. The successful rollout of new ticket machines across our network and the accompanying new back office software, has been a key aspect of this strategy. QR codes — across mobile and paper multi-journey tickets — now provide the ability to increase the speed of boarding thus speeding up the journey.

“I am confident that our GoSmart card will attract new customers to McGill’s. Benefits such as quicker journeys, real time info and no need to have cash for a trip will hopefully widen the appeal to all customers.”
