BID To Turn Disused Hall Into House With Swimming Pool Is Refused

PLANNING officials have rejected proposals to transform an old church hall in Gourock into a three-bedroom property with swimming pool, sauna and gym.

The plan involved the former St Bartholomew’s Church hall in Binnie Lane.

Ground floor accommodation was to have comprised an open plan lounge, kitchen, and dining room, plus a swimming pool, sauna, gym and two double bedrooms.

On the upper floor, the plans showed a master bedroom suite, home office, games room and family cinema.

A decision report issued by Inverclyde Council planners stated: “The proposal to extend, alter and convert the building will result in an already large building becoming an over-dominant feature within close proximity to neighbouring residential property and this over-dominance would be to the detriment of the appearance, character and residential amenity of the area.

One public objection was received raising concerns over privacy.
